An old-school outlier in the increasingly hip stretch of Bukit Pasoh, The Reading Room just oozes charm. Born of a love for good food, good drinks, and most of all, good books, this bibliophile paradise is quite simply different from anything else you’ve seen before.
Stacks and stacks of books, endless rows of book shelves, entering The Reading Room has been described as feeling as though you’re stepping into a library, and we have to admit, there’s a throwback tranquillity to the space that immediately won us over. What kept us coming back though, was undoubtedly the food.
A serious menu with some serious eats, The Reading Room’s signature TRR burger is an 180g beef patty topped with bacon, sautéed wild mushrooms, aged cheddar, lettuce, tomato, and aioli. The Kro-battered Fish and Chips offer a choice of snapper or halibut in a delectable Kronenbourg beer batter. Crisp on the outside, delicious flaky fish on the inside, and served with hand cut fries? Irresistible. And while we’re all “who needs friends when you have books?”, for those of you with a social life, The Reading Room also offers great sharing platters. Burrata cheese, antipasti, or classic misto fritto, there’s enough to go around. Just make sure you wipe your hands before picking up a book! (Apr 2016)
